ESA Space Transportation launches a new campaign on ESA OSIP, Embodied Intelligence for Space Transportation (EI4ST) – Call for Ideas. This call for ideas is seeking concepts and applications that leverage novel systems thinking in a digital era to build the next generation of Space Transportation solutions.   The campaign is focused on fielding new 'Intelligent' Launch Vehicle and In-Space Transportation Vehicle concepts that use advances in digital technology to spin-in and build Space Transportation Vehicle (STV) systems/sub-systems in new and ambitious ways.   Submitted ideas will identify to ESA relevant actors within European industry and will be used to shape future EI4ST content, objectives, and expectations according to European know-how and roadmaps. As this is a call for ideas, concepts need only be loosely defined. Given sufficient interest, the next stage would be a separate and subsequent tendering processes to begin work on submitted concepts supported by the ESA Future Launchers Preparatory Programme (FLPP) team (e.g. technology maturation funding, technical expertise, and go-to-market strategy).  The deadline for submission of ideas is the 11th February 2024, a short informational webinar will also be held on Friday 19th January at 11:30am CET -> sign up here.

New campaign launched for mission concepts enabled by swarms of cubesats

Submit your innovative idea for new mission concepts enabled by swarms of cubesats in this new campaign. In-space distributed or aggregated payloads embarked on swarms of CubeSats offer new opportunities for innovative missions in different domains, such as space science (astronomy, heliophysics), Earth observation, and telecommunications. Technology miniaturisation and rapid/recurrent in-orbit demonstration in the New Space sector has allowed CubeSat system capabilities to reach a level where deploying and operating distributed or aggregated swarm systems is expected to become feasible and cost-effective in the near-term. In line with the 2022 update of ESA's Technology Strategy addressing the objectives of the Director General’s Agenda 2025 for faster development/adoption of innovative technologies, and enhanced opportunities for In-Orbit Demonstration opportunities, this campaign aims to provide answers to the following questions with an open call for innovative mission concepts: What can be done with CubeSat swarms beyond the current state-of-the-art? What mission applications can such swarms uniquely address? What key technologies need to be developed to enable these innovative concepts? How should these key technologies/system capabilities be demonstrated in flight before being used in an operational system? Find out more on the campaign website.

Dear OSIP user, Please be informed that the Open Space Innovation Platform ( https://ideas.esa.int ) will be upgraded on Thursday 23/01/2020 during lunchtime (12.30 - 13.30). During this time, the OSIP platform ( https://www.ideas.esa.int ) will be in maintenance mode and consequently not be reachable (service outage). Please ensure that all ideas, campaigns, channels on which you are working are properly saved before the upgrade in order to avoid any data loss. Services will be restarted at 13.30 once the upgrade has been completed and the platform should then be accessible again. BENEFITS The version 9.8 of the Open Space Innovation Platform is bringing several new features/functionalities. Most visibly:  Possibility to display on the activity page only items which have not been yet read.  History of navigation: the menu bar now includes a history icon, where the user can browse the pages recently visited PDF reports: All users who can see an idea can generate PDF prints including only the information allowed to be seen Object selection dialogs when selecting users has been improved. The selected items appear at the bottom of the dialog and includes a tree view when browsing directories. Users belonging to the evaluation boards can now switch to dual-window mode, allowing to open pages via links in new windows.   CONTACT INFORMATION Please do not hesitate to comment here if you have further questions or technical issues.
