Abstract
We are saving Earth from the Moon! For the time being, we have only one planet by the name of Earth, and we are currently exploiting its nature exactly 1.75 times faster than its ecosystem can regenerate. What is more, the need for solution of this environmental problem has become crucial and inevitable for any further progress either in the field of science or technology. As the result, we have a situation in which humanity is facing catastrophic environmental condition. Therefore, it is high time to turn on the global EcoAlarm on the Moon. Moon EcoAlarm is a green laser with a power of about 300 Kw that could reach Earth and would be visible in a diameter of about 3000 km. In order to get the blinking effect, it would move and "illuminate" parts of our planet according to the given algorithm, so that light would reach each region periodically in seconds, and it would seem to the observer that the green "light" flashes. Seen from Earth, only a green "lamp" would be visible at the moment when a person observes the Moon, and certainly only when the sky is clear. This laser beam could also be used for various other researches in the field of quantum science, transfer of energy and information and numerous other measurements. Speed of laser movement could change depending on the level of pollution on Earth at that moment. Currently, the level of carbon dioxide is at 415 ppm, while the unofficial limit is at 400 ppm. Having in mind that the ESA wants to use its research on the Moon for the aim of informing and inspiring the public, the Moon EcoAlarm would be multi-purpose because it would not only constantly remind the entire world of the most important problem we face (pollution of Earth), but it would also symbolically signal that man is present on the Moon. Among other things, this would be a green "lamp" which would motivate people, especially our youngest, to think about space, explore, spread their knowledge, think creatively and try to fix what we have broken.
The Moon EcoAlarm should be located in the northernmost point of the Moon from which Earth can be seen.
The mission of the ESA is to benefit both the citizens of Europe and the whole world, thus the idea of the Moon EcoAlarm would be a significant and above all useful action. This project fully fits into the mission and vision of the ESA, as well as into the ESA Strategy for Science at the Moon, ESA Space Resources Strategy and/or overall European Exploration Envelope Programme (E3P), since, among other things, it should inspire and encourage innovations on Earth which should help us find new ways to solve global issues and challenges and thus increase the economic yield of the world industry. The Moon EcoAlarm project especially fits into all the ESA acts because it brings new results in the fields of both basic and applied science and offers a convincing vision of a global effort, at the same time enriching society and inspiring future generations.
The laser should be placed and directed towards Earth, and other technical data should be obtained during the period of further elaboration and research of this idea.
Further considerations are needed.
